Reverse Mortgages Victoria was built on a simple belief: that Australians approaching retirement deserve honest, expert, face-to-face advice from someone who genuinely understands their situation - not a call centre, not a sales script, and not a one-size-fits-all product.
Since 2002, that belief has guided everything we do.

Planning Ahead: Using Your Home Equity for Future Needs
For many homeowners, the most important thing isn’t what they need today - it’s knowing they’ll be able to manage whatever comes next. As retirement progresses, needs change. Homes require more maintenance. Health becomes a greater consideration. Care may become necessary.
A reverse mortgage line of credit is designed exactly for this kind of thinking. It gives you access to a pool of funds you can draw on as and when you need them - without committing to borrowing more than necessary, and without the pressure of regular repayments.
You only pay interest on what you draw. The rest of the facility sits available, ready when you need it.

What is a line of credit?
A line of credit is a pre-approved facility that allows you to draw funds up to an agreed limit, at a time of your choosing. Unlike a lump sum, where you access everything at once, a line of credit gives you flexibility to access smaller amounts as your needs arise.
This means you’re only ever borrowing what you need, when you need it. Interest compounds only on the amount drawn, which helps to preserve more of your home’s equity over time compared with taking a full lump sum upfront.
Our team is here to help. Get in touch and we’ll be happy to answer your questions and point you in the right direction.
What our clients plan ahead for
These needs rarely arrive all at once. That is the point of a facility you can draw on gradually.
Future home repairs and maintenance
Homes age alongside their owners. Roofs, plumbing, heating systems and structural elements all eventually require attention, and the costs involved can be significant - particularly for older properties.
A line of credit allows you to plan ahead for these costs without needing to have cash set aside. When the hot water system needs replacing, or the bathroom requires a safety upgrade, the funds are there. There’s no need to delay, compromise, or worry.
Staying on top of home maintenance also supports your ability to remain living independently in your own home for longer - which for most of our clients is exactly what they want.
Living Well in the Years Ahead
Retirement is not simply a time to manage costs – it’s a time to live. And for many of our clients, some of their most meaningful goals still lie ahead of them: a trip they've always promised themselves, a caravan parked in the driveway, a grandchild finally able to buy their first home.
A line of credit makes these things possible without requiring you to commit to a large lump sum upfront. You draw what you need, when you need it - whether that's funding a holiday, upgrading a vehicle, or making a gift to family - and the rest of the facility remains available for whatever comes next.
Accessibility and Home Modifications
As we get older, the home that has served us well for decades may need some adjustments - a grab rail in the bathroom, a ramp at the entrance, wider doorways, or a stairlift. These modifications can make a significant difference to safety, comfort and independence.
A line of credit can fund these modifications progressively as your needs evolve, without requiring a large upfront outlay. It’s a practical, dignified way to adapt your home to the life you’re living.
Aged Care and In-Home Support
Planning for aged care is something many people put off thinking about, but addressing it early can make a real difference to the options available to you and your family.
Whether it’s funding in-home support services to help you stay in your own home longer, or contributing to aged care accommodation costs down the track, a line of credit can provide the financial capacity to meet these needs as they arise.
The interaction between a reverse mortgage and aged care costs can be complex, particularly where one partner continues to live in the property. Reverse Mortgages Victoria’s holistic approach means these questions are always part of the conversation. Paul is the specialist who will walk you through what applies to your situation, and connect you with appropriate professionals where other specialist advice is needed.
A Safety Net for the Unexpected
Even with careful planning, retirement brings surprises. A health event, a change in family circumstances, or an unexpected expense can appear at any time. For those on a fixed income, the absence of a financial buffer can turn a manageable situation into a stressful one.
A line of credit sits quietly in the background - not costing you interest until it’s used, but ready to provide support the moment it’s needed. Many of our clients tell us that simply knowing the facility is there gives them genuine peace of mind, even if they rarely draw on it.
Everyday Living Costs
The rising cost of living affects everyone - but for those on a fixed income, it can feel particularly relentless. Energy bills, groceries, healthcare, rates and insurance all add up, and what once felt manageable can gradually become a source of real anxiety.
Some of our clients come to us not for a single large purchase, but simply to relieve the day-to-day financial pressure and restore a sense of comfort and control. Accessing a portion of your home equity can make a meaningful difference to how you live - and how you feel.
There is no need to cut back on heating the house, delay car servicing, or put off a visit to a health specialist because of cost. You’ve earned the right to look after yourself well in retirement.
An undrawn facility and drawn funds sitting in your account are not treated the same way.
A reverse mortgage is a home loan, as described in both Stages 1 and 2 of the National Consumer Credit Protection Bill. The loan requires no regular repayments during the term of the loan. Mandatory repayments occur when the last remaining borrower no longer lives in the property, typically from sale of property, deceased estate, or moving to alternate accommodation.
Eligible homeowners aged 55 and over can access some of the equity in their home, without selling or moving out. You stay in the home you love, with greater flexibility to live on your own terms.

Age Pension Implications
The way a line of credit affects your age pension depends on whether funds remain undrawn or have been accessed. RMV will explain the relevant rules clearly so you understand how the facility interacts with your Centrelink entitlements - both now and as your situation evolves.
